If I had to get a tattoo it would be an image of Shakespeare, because he is the most famous, and ultimate of all our literary geniuses.
I have been a Friend of Shakespeare’s Globe for the past twenty-two years, and try to see a play there three or four times a year either in the wooden “O” itself or in the indoor, candle-lit “Sam Wanamaker” theatre.
I recommend visiting this London venue just for the experience of being there. They do not always perform a Shakespeare play, but if they do, the visual acting, the colour, the comedy (even in his tragedy and history plays) and the music make it a wonderful experience even if the language of his day is a little difficult to understand. You can get a ticket for a performance for as little as £5.
As for the tattoo, I’m not really into them, so I’m buying a teddy in his image instead!
